INTO THE DEEP - August - October 2022

As Director of Photography for the mission, Tim Curtis supplied a wide range of cameras and drones to film background features and the expedition's key moments - from above and below the water line.

As well as shooting promotional footage for Nekton and it's partners, including, Omega, Teledyne, Saab and Oxford University, Video East filmed news features, 'as-lives', and interviews for and used by Sky, BBC Earth, Our Frozen Planet, Channel 4, Al Jazeera, EuroNews and over 200 broadcasters worldwide

THE NEKTON MALDIVES MISSION

Video East

helped visualise the first deep-sea exploration of the Indian Ocean around the Maldives by international and Maldivian scientists

After 5 weeks at sea, the Mission's scientists believe they have discovered a new eco-system that they are calling 'The Trapping Zone'

And here is a nicely put together short film by the BBC #OurFrozenPlanet team using the Nekton footage and interviews that we shot on the Mission.

Intro:

The Maldives could be underwater by 2100. Maldivians are working together to look to the very thing that defines them – the ocean – to save its future, and their island homes.

Narrated by wildlife filmmaker Laura Pennafort.

*Film also contains library footage.

Above are a few of the social media films that we helped make and which gained the Nekton Maldives Mission almost 20 million engagements on social media

* Some underwater footage was shot by specialist and third party scuba and snorkel videographers, not Video East. © Nekton Foundation

SOME OF OUR CLIENT EXPERIENCES

“Tim is a highly talented and experienced film-maker who worked with 14-18 NOW over a four year period from 2015-2018 to film a documentary record of the Poppies Tour and created multiple
promotional films in 19 locations

I have no hesitation in recommending Tim for future work”
Nigel Hinds OBE
Executive Producer, 14-18 NOW

" Tim's camerawork was singled out for praise by the well known French documentary maker, Marcel Ophuls. Tim has good editorial judgement and I relied on it a great deal. He is excellent company, especially when conditions are bad. I enjoyed working with Tim immensely."

John Simpson , BBC World Affairs Editor

"Working with Tim is always a pleasure. He's efficient, focused, creative, he is the first person we call"

Libby Jukes, Producer,

BBC The Andrew Marr Show

“Your expertise and professional guidance have been, and continue to, be invaluable.”

Damian Horner
Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Real Vision
“Video East were fantastic throughout the entire process. Professional, calm, highly responsive, Tim produced an excellent film in very challenging circumstances (Galapagos) and we are very grateful to him for all his hard work and high quality deliverables. We would be happy to recommend him to any of our corporate clients.”
Dr Tom Woollard
Environmental Resources Management
"Tim is one of the best Cameramen / Editors I have worked with.

He has a tremendous eye for composition and is a wizard on the Avid, but most of all he's a journalist with a nose for a great story and the determination and people skills to develop ideas into great television."
Sandy MacIntyre, Director of global video news, AP
Tim, the event was a resounding success! People viewed from the UK, Europe and the USA.

The thing that I was amazed by was how moved people were and that could only happen because of the way your film created an atmosphere as well as showing the painstaking
process of the whole thing. Many people said what a beautiful film it is.
